To resolve this issue, please first uninstall Carbonite from your computer and then reinstall using the steps below. If the Carbonite gives a message that the installer is expired , please delete all Carbonite installers and download a fresh installer.

In some cases, the Carbonite installer may not properly install or open correctly after it is downloaded from the Carbonite website. The instructions below can be used to resolve this issue.

When attempting to install Carbonite, you may be prompted to enter a password, like the window seen below. If you come across this message, type in your Mac password and click Add Helper to continue the installation of Carbonite.

Once you have verified that the computer name meets these requirements, you should be able to reinstall Carbonite successfully. Carbonite is unable to install in languages other than English for Macs on Mojave and above. With a language other than English as Primary, the Carbonite installer may fail to open or get stuck at the Connecting to Backup Service phase. To resolve this, you simply need to add any English variant to the available languages and set it as Primary.

This is only necessary for the install and can be changed back after successful install. Click the show all button to return to the main System Preference Window and confirm that you wish to restart your computer to change the Primary language. After installing you can switch back to your preferred Primary language following the steps above.

Carbonite will continue to work regardless of the Primary language you choose. Carbonite does not support multiple languages for Mac on High Sierra. With multiple languages, the Carbonite installer or interface may fail to open if you have more than one language. Removing languages will not delete the language from your computer. You can switch back to these languages at any time and Carbonite will continue to work if only one language is selected.

One of the problems that can cause issues installing Carbonite could be that Gatekeeper is blocking the Carbonite setup file. Allowing through Gatekeeper can help Carbonite can bypass and help you install without any issues. A secure connection to our servers is required for Carbonite to install. If you use security software or have configured your firewall recently, you may need to make exceptions for Carbonite to connect properly.
