I'm sure there are many that do, but many don't. And that's unfortunate. That is selfish. She told Inside Edition in that she only gets three to four hours of sleep a night due to the panic of keeping her kids safe. She said early in the octuplets' lives, Suleman received death threats.
The condition of her home didn't seem to bother her, as she said she wasn't out to impress anyone. It took many years. I have always been a people-pleaser. While she unconditionally cared for her children, the reality of trying to afford raising 14 kids as a single mom became difficult. That same year, she moved out of her home after it was foreclosed on by the bank.
Her public life eventually became riddled with what she called "self-exploitation," including a brief career in pornography. For me, that was the manifestation of toxic shame," she continued.
It was horrible. Times continued to get difficult for Suleman. In , she pleaded no contest to welfare fraud. She raised her kids as vegans, Suleman explained to Inside Edition in , and taught each of the children to help with chores around the house. When the twins were only toddlers, Natalie decided to try again. She said this was because she still had some frozen embryos. So, the last try: laugh yeah, it worked. It worked a little too well. Calyssa found this pic today and asked if she was in my belly with Caleb here.
The embryos certainly took. Her sixth round of in-vitro fertilization treatments resulted in more than twins. Doctors said she was carrying seven babies yes, seven, more on this later. My mom was watching over us then, and I believe is watching over us now. Now going by the name Nadya Suleman, she threw out her back and was put on bed rest at 23 weeks pregnant. Soon, doctors discovered one of the babies was no longer growing and decided it was time to deliver them.
The babies were born at 30 weeks, 10 weeks before their due date. Noah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Jeremiah, Josiah, Jonah, and Makai, you taught me more about gratitude, forgiveness, patience, and unconditional love than I could have hoped to learn in a lifetime.
You are all the strongest, most loving, compassionate, and selfless human beings I have ever known. God blessed me plentifully by placing you all in my life, my loves, my angels. I love you so so so much. Suleman gave birth to six boys and two girls.
The eighth baby surprised even the doctors. The octuplets all share the middle name Angel. All 14 children have the surname of Solomon. Suleman has declined to state who their father is. Birthday fun for my little ones. However, she said he was not pleased to discover she had octuplets after having already given birth to six other children.
In , fertility specialist Dr. The physician stated that he was apprehensive, but that Suleman had been adamant. His apprehension was not enough to get Kamrava off the hook. The California Medical Board ruled that the doctor committed gross negligence.
The Beverly Hills doctor lost his medical license. That same year, Suleman posed in a bikini for the cover of Star Magazine. She went on to auction off the swimsuit.
Walters proceeded to ask about money. She wondered how Suleman would support 14 children once the money from interviews stopped coming. She earned some quick cash as a PETA spokesperson. Michael Kamrava, who assisted Suleman by implanting her with 12 embryos, became a symbol to some of the problems in the burgeoning industry. Kamrava was accused of being grossly negligent in his treatment of Suleman and a year-old patient who suffered complications after she became pregnant with quadruplets after receiving seven embryos.
Guidelines by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine say doctors should not normally implant more than two embryos in women under 35, and no more than five embryos in women over Suleman was 33 when she gave birth to the octuplets. The panel also found that Kamrava committed repeated negligent acts while caring for a year-old fertility patient. In that case, he failed to flag an abnormal test result, and months later another doctor discovered that the woman had ovarian cancer, the panel noted.
The panel also rejected the argument that bad publicity would deter Kamrava from transferring an excessive number of embryos in the future. The panel noted that Kamrava said the publicity surrounding the Suleman case distracted him from following up properly with another patient. Unless Kamrava successfully appeals his license revocation through the state court system, the revocation would mark the end of his medical career in California. The octuplets were born in January , and initially the news was greeted as a medical feat for the doctors and a joyous event for the family.
