Who is azure ray

I mean, our producer, Brandon Walters, did such a good job. Like Maria said, we normally go into a studio for a month. So, to hear it all at once was a fun surprise. It was scary to give up that freedom, but it totally worked with him. How does that feel? I think Orenda said it best once—she commented on how music has taken some weird twists and turns. So, that kinda just gave us another reason to put out music right now—it seems like people are really receptive to our style.

This is just our hearts and souls coming out. This is what comes most naturally. We were in our early 20s when we made that first Azure Ray record. So, it was kinda just instinctual for us. But, we never changed that. Stick with it: they will always come back around! MT: Yeah, we stuck with it. Taylor Swift put one of our songs on a breakup playlist she made.

The original Azure Ray record is 20 years old, but it continues to find new audiences. We still love making music together. It means a lot. AS: In a lot of ways, that brings to light some of the unfortunate realities of being an artist in the modern economy. OF: Well, a lot of that has to do with the rise of streaming in the music industry, really. I mean, it just kinda gutted the ability to make a certain type of income for a certain tier of artists… the tier that we fall right into.

I mean, there was a time when people were buying records and I felt fortunate. MT: Yeah, exactly—Mr. I had all the connections and we had the dream and the right work ethic, so we made it happen.

They have been thoroughly vetted and are all great, amazing people. I think a lot of people, to a certain degree, have been changed by the fear of being alone. The whole thing is a real mind fuck. But so far as the music goes, I think Maria and I are happy to play shows. We really want to reach people with this record. I think that it could be a cathartic lesson for people, you know?

We want people to feel about this record the way they did the first record. We hope that it helps them get through times that are tough. Only members can comment. Become a member. Already a member?

Taylor and Fink returned their focus to Azure Ray in , launching a brief tour before returning in with their fourth album, Drawing Down the Moon. After 5 full length albums, 4 cities, 2 hiatuses, and one pandemic, their timeless, genre-defining sound returns with a bold new fortitude on June 11th with Remedy.

With Remedy, Taylor and Fink sought to explore new structural arrangements and sonic dynamics, providing Walters with both the creative direction and freedom to expand upon the bands long-established ambient sound.

Thematically, reoccurring themes of tragedy, chaos and anxiety present from the very first Azure Ray record as a result of immense personal loss present themselves with new meaning set against a world — not just their own lives — in turmoil. However impartial it sounds, the result is the best version of Azure Ray ever captured to tape or computer. Limited to copies, the exclusive FMR bundle includes a hand-numbered and signed page photobook curated by band which recollects the last 20 years and features never-before-seen personal photos and stories detailing their pre-Azure Ray days, formation, recording and tours and with Bright Eyes, Moby and more.

In addition to being mastered for vinyl, the band also uncovered an unreleased track from the original recording sessions which is offered as an exclusive digital download with the physical album. After a brief stint with Geffen Records, barely out of their teens, the pair began touring and releasing independent records in , a time when most indie rock clubs had never seen a girl walk into the door carrying her own guitar.

Their work was about alchemizing pain into beauty, heartbreak into art, loss to transcendence, a way to walk with the angels — and a style that has left a lasting impact even on mainstream music.

Always looking forward, this special 20th anniversary package has given them time to reflect on their past. One thing is especially clear and that is how grateful we are to all of our collaborators, fans and supporters.
